3:05 pm - Help!
Call to my Chicago peeps:

I need one of those Walter E. Smithe Field shirts that are being given out as part of the WES April Fools joke. They indicate that they will be giving away shirts through Monday (probably limted by supplies). I really really want one. If anyone can snag me an XL I'll send you a prepaid mailer to send it to me (or pay postage, or whatever is easiest.) Please please please!

Uhhh... this is disgustingly fascinating. Definitely the most interesting thing I've read today. If you're really squeamish, I'd pass, though.

Huh. Snow-hail in Redmond right now. Huge hail-shaped hunks of snow are just pouring from the sky. Weird.

11:51 pm - Photoshop skillz
I stitched together the two last supper style images that Melinda posted from the NYE party at [info]fixer's.

Image... )

The hardest part was getting Dylan's hair to look right because it was right at the point of stitching. And if I hadn't rushed it I would have made the triscuit box look a little better. It's got a bit of a bend in it which wouldn't be too hard to fix, but it'll live.

11:30 am - Call for geek advice
What is the easiest and best way to transfer an entire system to a new hard drive? What I'm trying to do is put a new hard drive in a computer that requires swapping out one of the drives already in there, and the smallest drive is the Windows volume. So what I'd like to do is transfer the entire system to the new larger disk and have it just keep working. Advice?

7:48 pm - Fun problem from today
Correct answers will stay screened for a little while, solve this:

Given two prime numbers p1 and p2 (> 5) whose difference is 2, prove that their average is divisible by 6

Some example prime numbers in this set include:

5 & 7
11 & 13
17 & 19
41 & 43

Have fun. :-)

UPDATE 2006-01-08:
I have unscreened the correct answers.

6:05 pm - Criminal Justice Opinion Paper
If you recall, I recently solicited opinions about the Michael Jackson case for my Criminal Justice 101 opinion paper. I got it back today, having recieved a perfect mark, and thought I'd post it here for your entertainment. I think it's slightly funny. I was going for a kind of wry sarcasm, and attemted to play with the english language a bit. I'm no writer, however, so don't expect anything stellar. I made one correction (adding the word "we" to the second sentence of the second paragraph -- it apparently was discarded when I reworded the sentence) but otherwise have posted the exact text that I turned in.
Opinion Paper... )
I have to write a second opinion paper, due in a few weeks, the topic of which will be the death penalty. I'm thinking of going for even more snarky/wry humorous assides and discussions. I'm also thinking of making a straightforward logical case for the abolition of the death penalty. I'm leaning toward the first option because I think it would be easier and more fun to write, as well as being more interesting to read. Hrmm... suggestions?

2:52 pm - thestranger.com/savage love
Ahaha, [info]ilwitchgrrl had previously talked to me, on several occasions, about some letter in Dan Savage's column Savage Love. And I seem to remember she was a fairly regular reader. Eh, she can correct me if I'm wrong -- it's been a while. In any caes, I think I might have to start reading him regularly, for a couple of reasons. Mainly because he seems to have advice that I find very good. It's not that I think much or any of his advice will be of use to me -- it's just very comforting to see people with questions given very good advice, it reaffirms my faith in humanity a bit. And secondarily, because he is a very good writer and his replies are lively and entertaining.

With that as probably the most detailed introduction I have ever given for a small, inane web snippit, I give you my reason for posting. This is for my friends in Alaska, and also for my friends who have friends in Alaska. Heh:
How do we know he's damaged goods? Let's count the ways: For starters he's a single man who chooses to live in Alaska, which should be renamed the Alaskan National Damaged Goods Refuge.
Read the whole column.

12:33 pm - Query
Hey, does anyone have any particularly interesting opinions on or about the Michael Jackson case? I have to write a short opinion paper with that given as the topic, and I find myself without an opinion... because I really could care less about such a media circuis. I was considering doing my paper on how stupid it is that so much attention is being paid to this case, but I'm not sure that would be interesting to read. Anyone have any opinions I can borrow? ;-)

5:57 pm - Housecleaning
Well, I've removed about 10 people from my friends list who didn't have me listed as a friend. I had previously refrained from removing people who I actually knew in person, but I'm feeling like that's not necessarily a good enough reason to continue to read someone's journal or even to let them read the entries I consider sensitive enough to lock to friends-only. In any case, I don't think any of them will even notice. I might go through the mutual connections later and clean some of that out too. Not sure.

I've had very little LJ, or even general internet, time lately, but it's good to clean out every once in a while.
